Stand Stronger Together
Is your team cross trained? Does the front desk know what frame brands your optical has available to your patients? Do your technicians ask lifestyle questions to open conversation with your patients? Do your doctors know what frame brands are available in your practice? Is everyone in the office aware of what products will be the most beneficial for the various lifestyle activities your patients experience and participate in?
There are people who read those questions and answered, should we? Do we? I am not sure, maybe? Well, this is why it is important to create a plan to cross train everyone in your office to know how to help one another in every part of the office and throughout your patient production cycle. What happens at the front desk impacts your success in optical and vice versa. What is said in optical impacts what happens in clinic and vice versa. You are a team, and you all need to work together for the common good of your patients and your business.
Have you taken the time with your team members to develop and create your Core Values? Have you created or updated your Mission Statement? These need to be reviewed annually. Your whole team needs to know these and live them daily. These two tools, your Core Values and the Mission Statement, give you and your team the vision necessary to motivate one and all to be better tomorrow than one is today.
There was a very good college football coach who talked to his team about redwood trees. We all know redwood trees grow to significant heights. He would go on to say how if one lived by itself, it would not survive. These monstrous trees have shallow roots and would not survive severe storms. But because they live together and their roots intertwined, they are able to stand strong and live long lives, while withstanding the forces of mother nature. Some are said to live over 2,000 years. They support one another and work together to create what is arguably one of the most beautiful sites in the Pacific Northwest.
Your team needs to be there for one another. Show your support for each other. Develop one another to grow tall and be more tomorrow than you are today. Grow together and create the culture through your vision to be all you want to be for your patients. Be amazing like the redwoods to entice and excite your patients to want to refer their friends and family. Respect one another’s skills and knowledge. Learn from one another and be bigger for the whole. Not every day will be sunny. Stand together when the rainy days or storms come about. You will survive and thrive when you all hold your ground and grow together to get through the tough times and to finally enjoy the great times together.
The coach that referenced the redwoods was the late Bill McCartney. He coached the Colorado Buffaloes in the 1990’s. He passed away on January 10, 2025.
Make your team redwoods. You will be happy you did.
Sincerely,
Rick Guinotte
